This 1955 Studebaker Champion Conestoga station wagon was sold new in Arizona and spent time in Indiana and Tennesse before being purchased in 2017 by the seller, who is reportedly the fourth owner. Power is provided by a 350ci V8 and 3-speed turbo 350 automatic installed by a previous owner. Work performed since the seller’s purchase included a repaint in factory original Pima Red and Wimbledon White, a rewiring of the electrical system, a new windshield, new exhaust, and the installation of several electronics including a back-up camera, Pioneer sound system, auxiliary gauges, and more. Further equipment includes air conditioning, a dual-circuit master cylinder, a B&M QuickSilver shift kit, a new Edelbrock carburetor, and high-capacity aluminum radiator. This Conestoga wagon is now offered with recent service records and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The seller reports that minor body work was performed by an expert prior to the repaint in factory Pima Red and Wimbledon White in March 2018. A new curved windshield, vent glass, and all new rubber seals were installed within the last year, The front bumper and overriders were refinished at that time as well. The car is equipped with fog lamps from a President Speedster, custom fender spears with integrated LED turn signals, and a third brake light above the rear license plate. It retains its original brightwork.
Body-colored steel wheels wear full 1955-style Studebaker wheel covers and wide whitewall radial tires mounted approximately 9k miles ago. The car is equipped with rear air shocks, a Raybestos dual-circuit brake master cylinder, and new front bushings.
The interior is trimmed in red and white vinyl with matching door panels, and replacement new black Daytona carpet laid over Rattletrap sound deadening and heat shielding material. An aftermarket air conditioning system from Vintage Air is equipped, as are a B&M QuickSilver shift kit and a custom center console. Instrumentation was refurbished and augmented with a tachometer, voltmeter, temperature gauge, and oil pressure gauge. The odometer shows 42k miles, about 7k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.
The rear cargo area features a wood laminate finish installed by the seller. Other equipment includes custom stainless steel sill plates with Studebaker logos, an automatic cargo area light, a back-up camera, a rebuilt emergency brake, a Pioneer Bluetooth stereo with aftermarket speakers, a firewall-mounted battery cutoff switch, and a power plug in the spare wheel well. The windshield wiper was converted to a 12-volt motor with a new switch.
The factory 185ci inline-six was replaced during previous ownership with a Chevrolet 350ci V8 and paired with a Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed automatic transmission and Ford 9″ rear axle. Other equipment includes a new Edelbrock carburetor, a high-capacity aluminum radiator, an aftermarket exhaust with dual outlets, a new battery, and a Speedway 24 circuit wiring harness.
