RestoMod “a classic car that has been restored to its original look but enhanced with modern parts.” More so, resto-mods of today have become defined as supra-quality in their builds. This Decora, IA queen shows her hand-crafted and professional quality lines, clearly standing proud.
Base and clear coats express the quality of this paint. Kirker Paint colored Pale Agave catches the eye in all that is Cord. From the seams of the hidden headlamps to the accents of the coffin nose, quality emanates. No expense was spared when the body was reconstruction to original – from tracking down original or OEM sheet metal, to hand fab’ing the rocker panels, the builder, Young’s Kustoms Inc, was given one instruction……build it right. And how about those Wheel Smith artillery rims and Coker whites? Just simply stunning.
Beverly Cords had an upgraded interior, exceeding expectations of the lucky occupant. An absolutely amazing experience proceeds when you place yourself in this carriage. Plush and amazing, the light gray leather was sourced from, of all places, the custom aviation industry, using three matched hides, custom cut and hand stitched for fit and finish.
Not content with a rebuild, the Owner specified a new GM crate long-block and fit FI Tech fuel injection on top. Backed by a rebuild TH350 automatic and finished with an 80’s GM rear end with disc brakes. Up front the original running gear, yes – Cords were originally front wheel drive, was modernized with a fabricated Jaguar XJ6 suspension and steering package.
The independent mechanical inspection shows this modified Beverly to be in very good shape, with some minor items to attend to. Classic to vehicles with restored body and modified with a Chevy motor is the need for a heat shield at the starter. The extremely thorough exam revealed some tightening and two finish modification should be addressed in order to perfect this highly modified restoration. Owner has stated that he will be addressing every issue noted in the inspection report – now that’s style!
Really, should we be surprised that a Cord became a resto-mod? They were modern and ahead of their time in 1936. And you take the best of that time including those stunning and functioning hidden headlamps, descript supercharger accents and all-steel body then blend in dependable running gear and finish with the safety of radial tires working with disc brakes, the term Resto-Mod is quite defined.
