The Jeep distinguished itself all over the world during WWll. Many soldiers who drove it and used it wanted a vehicle like it for their own use. After WWII, Willys made and sold world famous Jeeps for civilian use. The CJ (Civilian Jeep) was aimed at the work force and not really for fun or recreation. Rural drivers, farmers, ranchers and the like were the intended targets for the production and marketing efforts in the post-war period. This was really the first off-road production vehicle and it won the hearts of many buyers. The Jeepster was produced by Willys from 1948-19540. A convertible, it included many of the features found only on more expensive cars like whitewalls, hubcaps, sun visors, and wing windows. Its fame spread. Willys never looked back, but embraced the new market. The Post WWll Jeep was here to stay.
The Jeepster fenders are not curvy, but rather look a bit boxy because the company did not have the equipment needed to make those swoopy body parts like the Big 3's post war cars. Jeep would continue that same look even in today's lineup. It's all steel and is painted in bright red. The great looking paint job was done before our owner bought the car. It is at least 10 years old, but looks fantastic. The white convertible top is likely a replacement. It fits snug, is bright white and houses an intact rear window. A spare whitewall tire with the correct wheel and hubcap is mounted in the back. The rear chrome bumper is original and still has the "Overland" script. The front bumper, the Jeepster badge and all of the original chrome window trim is in place and in excellent condition. The beautiful grill and headlights are familiar, almost every Jeep built since 1948 looks similar. All of the chrome pieces are in great shape, the step-plates on either side and even the original taillights are all there and gleaming.
The Jeepster's interior is simple, functional and comfortable. It is surprisingly roomy. The original seats have been reupholstered with a handsome red and black and so have those door panels. The convertible mechanism is original, very robust and keeps the top stretched and tight. The factory steering wheel is there, one can see that it has experienced a few cracks through the years, but it still works fine! The dash panel is very art deco-looking, the engine turned aluminum and 4 gauges surrounding the speedo are timeless and elegant. An AM radio, a few control knobs for lights and ventilation and a Jeepster cover for the glove box completes the dash. The carpet is old but it works. Shifting is done via the "three on a tree" setup. The mileage of the car is 86,950 and that is believed-to-be an accurate, original number.
Our red Jeepster is powered by the famous Willys "Go Devil" 4 cylinder. A proven performer, it powered just about every Jeep vehicle made during the war. The original 48 horsepower flathead was bumped up to about 66 Horsepower in this civilian version. Our owner had the motor entirely rebuilt about 3 years ago. The Jeepster runs very well. It is backed up by a 3-speed manual transmission. The engine/transmission combination have proven themselves over time and they are as reliable as can be. While the engine was being rebuilt, the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing were replaced. A new radiator and hoses, starter, generator and battery have been fitted at that time. All 4 brakes have been serviced recently There are only 100 miles on the engine rebuild ensuring that a new owner will have a fresh engine in this bright red beauty. Our bright red Jeepster starts, runs, drives and stops very well. Overall mechanical condition is very good.
We recommend viewing the video to see what a great looking vintage Jeepster we have for you. This is a car that can be a daily driver or will fit perfectly into your collection. The car is done, it needs nothing and has only 100 miles on its rebuild. It is original, it's from the 1940s, and you will be the only one in a '48 Jeepster at your local car show.
How would this look in your driveway ? It will look great anywhere. Jeep fans are die-hard and we expect a lot of interest in this fantastic car. Iconic, known the world over and more popular every year, we invite you to bid on this beauty before it is gone. Good Luck !

Placing an absentee bid is a great way to ensure you never miss the end of an auction. With absentee bidding you can place a maximum bid for the car you want. Your actual bid will be $100 (dependent on the auction) more than the current bid & whenever you are outbid, your bid will increase to $100 more than the current bid.
So for example if the current bid is $1000 and you place an absentee bid of $5000, your new bid will only be $1100. Then if someone outbids you with $2000, the system will automatically bid for you $2100. This will happen all the way to your maximum bid.
Congratulations on winning the auction. You'll receive an email shortly with the sellers information.
