Classic SUVs are starting to be a popular collector’s car, especially the 4X4s that are still tough enough to provide a great outdoor escapade. The Toyota Land Cruiser is the top of the list and is followed by the Ford Bronco and the International Scout.
This featured 1964 International Scout has been fully refurbished is part of the international line of heroic cruisers that have saved a lot of farmers from muddy roads and conquered the untamed road all over the world. A dealer from Belvidere, Illinois, is selling this beautiful off-roader and proudly says that it is “quite possibly the most elegant Scout in the world.”
The dealer is able to provide a very detailed description about this Scout:
“Ladies and Gentlemen, you are about to witness the end result of what happens when an International Scout restoration runs amok! This truck has lived nearly all of its life in the dry and sunny climate of Southern California. The owner searched very carefully and patiently to find a beautiful, straight, and rust-free canvas to begin with. This little southwest queen of the desert was the perfect platform.”
“The vehicle was disassembled, stripped, and painted one of the most beautiful colors that man can put into a spray gun, Aegean Aqua. Accented with beautiful Cameo White stripes and lettering all painted on, and protected with several coats of clear. All paint work was completed less than four months ago.”
“What started life as a cheap vinyl interior has been reupholstered in gorgeous white leather. Exactly two and one-half cows had to give their lives just to make the cab of this Scout smell like a Ferrari.”
Although the most common Scouts are enclosed off-roaders, this 1964 Scout is a pickup truck that has a very fresh truck bed. It also has a pair of benches on each side.
According to the seller, “every piece in the bed has been handcrafted out of oak and protected with nearly a dozen coats of automotive clear coat on all sides. This assures that you will not do any damage to the wood if, for some sad reason, this vehicle gets caught in the rain.”
“The beautiful woodwork is complimented by diamond-plate aluminum gleaming underneath. Fixed atop the bed sides, you will find custom hand-made oak hand rails that accent the body lines and rest upon polished stainless steel standoffs. In the center of the bed, and included with the sale, is a classic steel Coleman cooler that has been painted the same breathtaking color to match the vehicle and completed with International Scout emblems.”
This Scout still has its original 4-cylinder engine and 4-wheel-drive drivetrain. It rides on standard chrome wheels fitted with off-road tires. The seller is asking $29,900 for this 1964 International Scout which is just about right, considering the amount of work that has been put into restoring this truck. It’s easy to find Scout that have been cut, dismantled, dismembered, or torn apart but it is hard to find something like this one which is as good as new after restoring it to its factory and period correct setup with some luxury upgrades.
